Te Reo o Te Rēhia

Nau mai, whakarauika mai ki Te Reo o te Rēhia!

Kia ora! Kuruho & Rosie here from Kura Rēhia.

You are invited to join us on Sunday 2nd May at Te Reo o te Rēhia: a Celebration of Māori Games & Pastimes. This event follows in the footsteps of our 2019 wānanga and celebrates the launch of KAUPAPA - a word description board game for speakers & learners of te reo Māori.

Te Reo o te Rēhia will include workshops lead by tohunga tākaro tawhito (experts in traditional Māori play), creators of new taonga tākaro (Māori games & resources), taonga puoro (Māori musical instrument) practitioners, leaders in Māori music and sport - and you! A host of reo Māori & reorua (bilingual) games will be available to play on the day.

This wānanga will feature the launch of Kura Rēhia’s first board game, KAUPAPA. KAUPAPA is a companion to any te reo learner’s journey - beginners can use it to learn new words, and fluent speakers can thrive in a fast-paced, playful immersion environment. Having refined it over two years in collaboration with Hēmi Kelly and Maimoa Creative, we are very excited to share it with you and your whānau!

Details:

  • 10:45: Arrival and registration

  • 11am: Pōwhiri welcome and kai whakanoa (light lunch provided)

  • 12.15pm onwards: Kōrero, KAUPAPA launch and demonstration game. Followed by open game workshops and wānanga - choose between active, creative, competitive and thoughtful games based on your interests and fluency.

This all-age event is for whānau, kaiako/educators, people with a passion for te reo, community leaders and anyone curious about the potential of play. Workshops, kōrero & games will be in te reo Māori & English, so any level of either reo is perfect.

Kura Rēhia is passionate about celebrating te reo Māori through play. We create board games, resources and events for a bilingual Aotearoa. Our aim is for Aotearoa to experience te reo Māori as central to how we have fun together as whānau and friends. This vision inspired us as flatmates to create Kaupapa, our first board game. Kaupapa is proudly designed and made in Aotearoa, and we are proud to make sustainable manufacturing choices with Papatūānuku in mind.
