We’re writing to you today to share a little more about why we made TIPU, and the bigger kaupapa behind it.
Since we launched Kaupapa in 2021, we’ve watched thousands of whānau, kaiako (teachers) and tauira (students) fall in love with learning te reo through play. It’s been moving and mīharo in all the ways.
Heoi, over the years, we noticed a gap:
brand-new learners and tamariki needed something even more accessible.
Kaupapa has 900 kupu - amazing for deep learning, but a bit overwhelming for those just starting out. So we dreamed up something that felt light, achievable, and joyful from the very first minute.
That seed grew into TIPU.
A Māori word game that’s easy for total beginners, with:
- illustrations and pronunciation on every card
- small, manageable sets of essential vocab
- built-in repetition across four rounds
- cheeky Māui twists to make every moment fun
a format perfect for kids, families, and classrooms.
This is the next step in our mission to make te reo Māori learning fun, social and uplifting.
A game that helps Aotearoa grow its reo, one kupu and one laugh at a time.
